My most recent suite of paintings has been concerned with juxtaposition of rich, organic patterns with clean, flat geometric shapes; and using gray values with luminous lights. Furthermore, I am interested in establishing a sense of movement by emphasizing various speeds of circular shapes. One of the ways I accomplish this is by placing muddy colors next to clear washes; another is by laying transparent staining colors over dark, sedimentary, opaque colors. I have chosen to work with transparent watercolors because of its unpredictability and directness of expression.
